There are many positions within our team that require assistance from our parents. Many of these positions are listed below, but from time to time, HAST will need help with projects or events that are not on the list. Our parent contributions are vital to the success of the team as we strive to be strong leaders in Minnesota Swimming.
VOLUNTEERS –
Set Up – get pool area, concession stand, ready before meet starts. Requires some heavy lifting.
Concessions – food preparation set- up and staffing the stand during the meet, clean up. Soliciting food donations.
Head Timer/Timer – Timers are the key volunteers at all swim meets. The purpose of a competitive meet is for each swimmer to achieve times; therefore, these workers must be diligent and dedicated to ensure success. Another key worker at any meet is the head timer. The head timer ensures that all timers and their watches are functioning properly throughout the meet, replacing timers or watches when necessary. The head timer’s watch is started for each heat and is used to replace any watch that may malfunction or that did not start during any given heat.
Runner – Runners, shuttle material (e.g., seed cards, results) from station to station during the meet. These workers are literally “runners.”
Announcer – Meet announcers must be selected with great care. An announcer should have a clear, pleasant voice and be able to function under pressure in the midst of a noisy crowd and a demanding referee. A knowledgeable swim-parent with a pleasing “radio” voice and a willingness to help can be an invaluable asset as an announcer, but must be forewarned to remain impartial.
Programs/Swim Shop – sells programs to spectators, and also sells HAST swim shop items.
Security – one male, one female, check locker rooms for showers running, check all areas of school to make sure swimmers/visitors are staying in appropriate area. Make sure kids are not in tunnel, behind bleachers or using school equipment.
Clean Up – clean up pool deck and bleachers. Clean up concession area, gym and camping areas, make sure all supplies get returned to storage area. Heavy lifting involved.
